Having participated in and very much enjoying several international biking trips – Provence, Tuscany and New Zealand – with a high end tour organization, I have to say Girlfriends Go Tuscany was very special and unique. Tour company trips typically have a touristy, outsiders feel to them. You stay in high end hotels and inns and move around a lot. Our stay at a farmhouse-base in Pienza for a whole week provided an opportunity to explore a region in depth while essentially living with an Italian family. The family who ran the farmhouse, including their “adopted daughter,” Girlfriends Go Tours founder Betsy Bothe, went above and beyond to expose us to all aspects of their culture and history. Betsy’s extensive contacts in the region and fluency in Italian make her an ideal tour operator. She succeeded in providing us a well-rounded, fun, true Tuscan experience. Spending time with other women with a passion for biking and exploring is a great way to travel!
